About Don Inverarity:

Don was born in Calgary and he moved with his family to Vancouver in 1959 where his father worked in the mining industry. Much of Don’s youth was spent with his father, who did mining exploration and mineral claim staking across the province of British Columbia.

Don worked for CP Rail as a Brakeman after graduating from high school and then spent the next year traveling around Europe and Africa. Don joined CP Air when he returned to Canada and transferred to Whitehorse in 1974.

Don and his wife Mary met in Whitehorse and were married in 1976. They are the proud parents of 2 children, Joseph & Catherine. Don worked for CP Air in Winnipeg, Halifax and Toronto between 1980 and 1986 returning home to Whitehorse with his family in August 1986 to work as the Airport Operations Supervisor for CP Air.

In the fall of 1987 Don embarked upon a new career in computer systems. He worked for the Yukon Government as an Informatics Coordinator for two years before acquiring an equal share of the Radio Shack dealership on Main Street, Whitehorse. Don worked as the owner-manager of this successful retail outlet for the next ten years.

Don earned his CNE accreditation from Novell in 1995 and received his Information Systems Professional (ISP) designation from the Canadian Information Processing Society in 1999. During his time at Radio Shack, Don created a full service computer repair company as well as establishing one of the first private sector corporations in Yukon to provide consumer access to the Internet and the World Wide Web.

Don has been an active member of our community for the past 40 years. He has made contributions to many community organizations including serving as a board member on the Tourism Industry Association, the Workers Compensation Board of Appeal, the Whitehorse Chamber of Commerce, the Klondike International Road Relay, Rotary, and various Church Service Groups.

In 1999 after Don sold his interests in Radio Shack, he worked briefly for both Yukon Energy and MicroAge before accepting the position of Executive Director for the Yukon Entrepreneurship Centre Society. In this position Don spent 5 years helping new entrepreneurs to get started in business.

In 2006 Don was elected as a Member of the Yukon Legislative Assembly representing the riding of Porter Creek South. Don served as Critic for the Departments of Justice, Highways & Public Works, Economic Development and WCB. As well Don as served on Human Rights Act Review, Publics Accounts and various other committees. Among his achievements as an MLA Don was successful in having the Government move to a new secure Drivers License.

Don is currently retired as an MLA and looking to spend some more time with his wife, children and soon to be grandchild.
